Back in 2011, we put together a business plan to reposition an existing no frills fishing camp located in Panama’s Pacific Ocean into a sustainable 5 star nature-based lodge experience. The client was US conservationists and philanthropist Louis Bacon, who holds a particular passion for marine biodiversity, which makes senses given it’s part of a remote 14-island archipelago.
Officially opened last year, with gorgeous ‘Hemmingwayesque’ architecture by our friends at Hart Howerton, the 9 casitas offer a unique barefoot luxury experience which is steadily making waves as one of 2019’s hottest new destinations.
It’s 100% run on solar and recycles 100% of its water for safe irrigation. More interestingly though is the establishment of the Isla Secas Foundation which supports a number of marine-based scientific research initiatives in the region, environmental education programs for local children and numerous community programs on the mainland. Great to see Isla Secas up and running and having an impact.
