Very sad to learn that Southern Ocean Lodge on Kangaroo Island has been decimated by the fires ripping through our country. Putting a project like this together takes an extraordinary amount of vision, time, patience and, of course, capital – it’s mortifying to see this Baillie Lodges building reduced to a shell. It’s easy to assume that the owners have insurance, but the greater economic effect this will have on a small regional community that is largely reliant on the tourism industry is immeasurable. My thoughts go out to the staff, contractors, suppliers, partners and everyone in between who will be suffering from this loss in the coming days, months and years as the lodge is rebuilt. And of course, the community of Kangaroo Island.
