Graduate Training Programs

The Karingani Game Reserve, in partnership with the South African College for Tourism (SACT), developed two training programs designed to empower young people from Mozambique’s Magude and Massingir communities. These programs, offered annually, focus on different aspects of the tourism and conservation sectors: one focuses on hospitality, while the other is centred around wildlife tracking and conservation – preparing graduates for a wide range of roles in Mozambique’s growing tourism sector.

The program is funded by the founders of Karingani Game Reserve, along with Stephen and Maggie Lansdown. Through this initiative, local youth gain the skills needed to secure employment at Karingani Game Reserve, other parks, or within Mozambique’s broader tourism industry. In addition to addressing local employment challenges, the program also supports Mozambique’s national policies on environmental conservation and capacity building, contributing to the country’s sustainable development.

Graduates are trained to work in key roles such as tour guides, wildlife monitors, anti-poaching agents, and environmental educators. By equipping young people with these skills, the program is helping to position Mozambique as a competitive destination for eco-tourism, while also promoting the protection of its wildlife and natural resources. The initiative fosters social inclusion, providing young professionals from rural areas with opportunities to thrive in the global tourism industry, and aims to have a lasting impact on both local communities and the country’s broader conservation goals.
